This operation allows careful examination of the pelvis, to diagnose or rule out the presence of endometriosis or pelvic adhesions, or other problems that may be the cause of, or contribute to, infertility. If the procedure is performed in the luteal phase of the cycle, ovulation may be confirmed by observing the corpus luteum on the ovary.
The procedure requires general anesthesia and the patient must be accompanied upon discharge from the hospital. After the procedure, the patient may feel a slight discomfort; this is normal and expected.
